Pelvic Pain

A Message From Dr. Sarah O'Reilly, DPT, CF-L1, USAT-L1, Owner and Founder of Dimensions Physical Therapy

Women may experience pelvic floor dysfunction due to various factors in their lives. For instance, childbirth can lead to stretched muscles and nerves, damaged connective tissue, prolapse, changes in pelvic positioning, and reduced effectiveness of muscular contractions due to scar tissue. Hormonal fluctuations throughout a woman’s life can also affect the functionality of the pelvic floor.

Traumas like falls, auto accidents, surgery side effects, or unpleasant sexual experiences can result in pelvic floor dysfunction, causing pain and/or incontinence. Some women and girls are born with excessively tight muscles, which can cause pain and incontinence. Conditions such as endometriosis, interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), and pudendal neuralgia are commonly associated with pelvic pain, painful sex, and incontinence.

Nearly 25% of women are estimated to have a pelvic floor disorder. As age increases, the likelihood of developing such a disorder also rises, with around 50% of women potentially experiencing it by age 80. Incontinence is a leading cause of nursing home admissions. Although typical, it is essential to note that incontinence should not be considered a normal part of the aging process and should not be accepted as such. It is worthwhile to address these issues as soon as they arise.

If you are experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction, Dimensions Physical Therapy can help identify the underlying cause of your problem(s) and design a personalized program to address your specific issues. Treatment options may include myofascial release therapy, relaxation techniques, coordination of pelvic floor muscles with the rest of the body, dry needling, and pelvic floor strengthening. Don’t tolerate these challenges longer—Dimensions Physical Therapy is here to assist you.

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you’ve come to the right place!

Have you ever received these kinds of statements?

Let's face the reality:

Dimensions Physical Therapy Specializes In Helping Individuals Who Experience Leakage, Painful Intercourse, Unresolved Low Back Pain, Or Have A Postpartum Abdominal Separation (Commonly Referred To As A "Mummy Tummy") Regain Their Ability To Participate In Their Favorite Activities. Our Approach Focuses On Achieving These Goals Without Relying On Pills, Pads, Or Surgery.

Selecting the right healthcare provider is crucial to your overall well-being. By making an informed choice, you can avoid unnecessary surgeries, dependency on medications or painkillers, and the prospect of living with worsening symptoms for the rest of your life.

Obtaining the most natural and least invasive treatment is essential to address and prevent the recurrence of issues such as leakage, abdominal separation, pelvic floor problems, or postpartum hip/back/pelvic pain. It is vital to work with a provider who understands the interconnectedness of the body as a whole. Our bodies undergo remarkable transformations throughout our lives, and to achieve full recovery, we must address changes in the neck, back, diaphragm, core, pelvic floor, pelvis, posture, strength, and overall body usage. It goes beyond just performing Kegel exercises.

To ensure a comprehensive recovery, treating the symptoms and investigating the root cause of your symptoms and dysfunction is essential. By collaborating with an expert dedicated to identifying the underlying cause, you can receive a long-term solution to your problems, enabling lasting improvement and relief.

Dimensions Physical Therapy Has Developed A Three-Step Process To Address Your Postpartum Symptoms Effectively And Ensure You Never Have To Deal With Them Again.

STEP 1 - WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR STORY

We understand the frustration that comes with our healthcare system. Waiting for weeks or months for an appointment, only to have a brief consultation with doctors who rush through your concerns, can leave you feeling bewildered and dissatisfied.

At Dimensions Physical Therapy, we operate differently. We believe in providing attentive, personalized care, so our first step is listening to your story.

We recognize that every individual is unique, especially regarding postpartum issues. Each person has their own body, medical history, and pain and symptoms. Through an open conversation, we allow you to share your experiences. This allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of not only the physical aspects of your condition but also how it impacts your daily life.

By listening to your story, we can better tailor our approach to address your needs and goals. Your journey toward recovery starts with being heard and understood.

STEP 2 - IDENTIFYING THE UNDERLYING CAUSE OF YOUR SYMPTOMS

Many individuals receive a medical term or diagnosis for their physical concerns. A doctor could have provided it, revealed it through tests, or discovered it online. Terms like prolapse, Diastasis Recti, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Incontinence, Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Pain, or Hip/Back/Pelvic Pain may have been assigned to you.

You may have been told that your only options were resting, taking medication, or waiting. While these approaches might offer temporary relief, they fail to address the root cause of the problem.

At Dimensions Physical Therapy, we aim to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms, ensuring that your pain subsides and remains resolved in the long term.

STEP 3 - ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM AND AVOID ITS RETURN

At this stage, significant transformations occur. We create a personalized plan that empowers you to:

…resume exercising without the fear of experiencing pain, stiffness, or bladder control issues—even activities like running and jumping!

…engage in playful activities with your children, effortlessly lifting and carrying them without any difficulties.

…rekindle intimate relationships with your spouse, free from the fear of pain or discomfort.

…rediscover your favorite active lifestyle, whether it involves yoga, running, tennis, or any other activity you enjoy.

…regain strength, confidence, and a sense of sexiness as your body heals from Diastasis Recti/Abdominal Separation, fully restoring core strength.

Our ideal clients are motivated and enthusiastic about reclaiming their active lifestyle, even if they feel stuck.

We are happy to provide the information you need if you want to learn more about our availability and pricing before committing to a visit.
